Dr. Dickson lecture

13/06/2018

On June 13, Solar Meninos de Luz hosted Dr. Asante Dickson, a radiologist in Washington, who spoke for students of Elementary School II and High School.

Asante grew up in New York and faced, throughout his life, a harsh reality involving racism and discrimination. During his childhood, he only saw 3 possibilities for his future: becoming a gangster, a drug dealer or a rapper. He chose the music.

After a few years, realizing that he could not guarantee his future through rap, he sought the sport. He played tennis, which was expensive, and he needed to wake up at dawn to get the opportunity.

Already older, in the college where he graduated, in a class with more than 100 students, there were only two black mans. And of these two, only he finished the course.

Today, Dr. Dickson is a Radiologist, chair of Radiology at the Adventist Hospital in Washington and a speaker.

The talk showed young people the importance of making good choices, having willpower and striving for their dreams. They saw with their own eyes that it is possible to be what they want.
