Meninos de Luz Theater School ends 2017 with 3 presentations

08/12/2017

On December 8, at 2:30 p.m., students of Meninos de Luz Theater School presented themselves in three different plays. The theater classes taught by MUSA Cia Teatral teachers serve students from 4 to 16 years old – from Preschool to Elementary School.

Students of Preschool I and II presented in a play to the sound of the famous song “A Banda” (The Band), by Chico Buarque, with adaptation of the teachers Cheila Oliveira and Maria Augusta Montera. The text tells the story of a quiet city in the interior of Brazil where a grieving people live. In times of dictatorship, violence and unemployment, only music will bring a little hope to the hearts of those who live there. When the Band appears there, singing love things, the boyfriends dream again, the children recover their childhood that has been stolen, the workers forget the worries, the young girls lean in the windows to hear the serenades and even the flowers bloom as the moon lingers over them to feast.

Students of 2nd year lived the band’s instruments – with body work through music. Students of first year were the characters of the inner city: the lighthouse keeper, the couple of lovers, the man who counted money, the children, among others.

Students of 1st, 2nd and 3rd years of Elementary School have staged the play “A História da Floresta Mágica” (The Magic Forest History), written by MUSA team especially for the presentation. Every story is based on the four elements of nature: earth, water, air and fire. It is a forest where, for many years, there is the legend about a mysterious treasure hidden in its heart. This was not any forest, it was magical.

Students of 4th, 5th, 7th and 9th years have staged the adaptation of the book “A História do Planeta Azul” (The Blue Planet History). It is a distant planet in space where there are no adults, only children. These wild children, never abandoned for the good of their youth, play all day with no one to tell them what to do. Until a mysterious salesman arrives on their planet and gives them the fulfillment of their greatest desire: the ability to fly, causing a terrible environmental disaster that endangers the life of the population on the other side of the world. So courage and unity are needed to save the Blue Planet.

This project is sponsored by Estácio de Sá University, through the Culture Ministry (Rouanet Law), the Rio de Janeiro’s city hall and the Culture Municipal Secretary (ISS).
