Tribute to Solar volunteers

11/09/2017

Continuing the tribute that Solar will do to their dear and indispensable volunteers, in September, our honored friend is Janaina. She has been working with community young mothers group for more than a year.

Janaina agreed to answer some questions:

Full name?
Janaina Nolasco Gama.

How did you get to know Solar?
I used to participate of Lar Paulo de Tarso activities and there I met Solar.

How long have you volunteered at Solar?
For more than a year.

In what areas do you work?
I work with community Young Mothers Group, now Young Families Group, since now we have a father participating!

How do you feel about working at Solar?
Happy. I’ve wanted to volunteer for some time, and I made the decision after my father’s death. Thinking that in volunteer work, I would help people, I was the one who got the help. Although we are very close geographically – I live in Sá Ferreira -, I came across stories of life and a reality totally different from mine. I began to add value to my family, to the hot water when I come home tired, to dinner every day. Besides being happy, I am very grateful to all who welcomed me to Solar and especially to the young mothers.

What do you think about Solar’s work?
I find it an exemplary work. Education opens doors anywhere, makes us have a critical attitude, seeking creative solutions against adversity. Knowledge gives us freedom because it allows us to have contact with countless contents. Spiritist education gives us the moral basis for dealing with the harsh dilemmas of a society that propagates selfishness, individualism, and material achievement. And voluntary work adds even more relevance to this loving work.

Do you think Solar influences people’s lives? In what way?
Love changes people’s lives. Education changes people’s lives. Solar, with its loving education, completely changes the lives of the students, their families and also, our lives, the volunteers. Solar expands the possibilities of life of several children and adolescents with classes given by qualified teachers. And this education, it’s worth noting, is very holistic, because it includes plastic arts, music, etc. Creativity and sensitivity are stimulated. Activities involve families, an important basis for students’ cognitive and affective development. Anyway, it is an education, as actually dictated in the disclosure, integral and to set free.

What is Solar characteristic that you most appreciate?
The warmth. I feel like I’m part of a big family. And I feel that it happens because they are all going to the activities loaded with love to share.

Is there a nice story between you and the young mothers?
Something that caught my attention and I always share that with those who want to do volunteer work: the change of posture of them before the problems in the day to day. There is always someone who says that, in the face of a discussion or something more serious, breathe deeply or make a prayer, attitudes not did before. Whenever I hear these statements, I am happy to be sharing this change, this intimate reformation, which doctrine teaches us so much. And how much of this knowledge they end up passing to the companions and children. And as they realize that life becomes lighter.

Janaina, Solar Meninos de Luz thank you immensely for the love and dedication you give to our young families! It is our pride to have you as a volunteer!
