Monobloco concert to celebrate 20 years of Solar Meninos de Luz

11/11/2011

This Friday, the 11th of November, the most awaited show of the year happened! A concert by the bands Monobloco and Orquestra Voadora at Fundição Progresso, in Lapa, to celebrate 20 years of Solar Meninos de Luz. It was a charity event; part of the revenue and half a ton of non-perishable food were donated to the institution. Solar Meninos de Luz has partnered with Monobloco since 2007, when the group began to collect non-perishable food at its traditional pre-Carnaval rehearsals. Since then, more than five tons of food have been donated to Solar.

With the voices of singers Pedro Luís, Fábio Allman, Renato Biguli, Alexandre Momo and Pedro Quental, the eclectic repertoire included hits like Frevo Mulher, Pagode Russo, Pescador de Ilusões, Descobridor dos Sete Mares, Taj Mahal, Caio no Suingue and Fio Maravilha, among others. The night also had concerts by Orquestra Voadora and As Meninas do Nós, made up of members of Grupo Cultural Nós do Morro, as well as the presence of Solar students and members of the samba beat workshop, which uses Monobloco’s teaching method.

The percussion workshops are held by volunteer musician Carlos Poyart. “I have always admired Monobloco’s work and after this connection with Solar I rediscovered the pleasure of learning, playing and making music. Musician Fred Castilho invited me, so I had the opportunity to participate in the group”. According to Poyart, Solar not only transforms the lives of students, but also of people who are directly or indirectly linked to the institution. “All of us benefit, because Solar gave me the opportunity for inner growth, it brought my self-esteem back and I started believing that it’s possible to make a new start, even when we think it isn’t. I learned that everything in life brings you true returns when you work with love, compassion and goodness.”

The directors of Solar and a few students and employees were present at Fundição Progresso to honor the event.
